Our Story

Wabusk Data Solutions was born from a shared vision of protecting what matters most — our families, communities, stories, and data.

Founded by Chelsea (settler ally) and Savion (First Nations), a wife-and-husband team blending expertise in privacy, IT, and Indigenous data governance, Wabusk is rooted in the belief that data sovereignty is a vital part of community sovereignty. We saw a need for culturally grounded, relationship-based services that empower Indigenous Nations and hold non-Indigenous partners accountable in meaningful, actionable ways.

Our work is about more than compliance or tech support — it’s about relationships, respect, and creating a future where Indigenous data is governed, protected, and uplifted by Indigenous Peoples.

The Dreamcatcher represents protection, guidance, and the weaving of knowledge. It reminds us that the work we do is about safeguarding what matters most: our stories, our data, and our futures. The Medicine Wheel grounds our work in balance, relationality, and respect for all aspects of life — the physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual. It reflects our commitment to holistic, culturally rooted approaches in everything we offer.

The binary code woven throughout symbolize the digital world we navigate. They remind us that technology and data governance are deeply connected to our cultural values and that sovereignty extends into our digital spaces.

The Polar Bear (Wabusk) Family honours the name of our company and what it stands for — strength, protection, and family. The polar bear is a powerful symbol of resilience, adaptability, and guardianship. It can also be translated to “the wandering one” which reflects our lives and the area along James Bay that we live. The family represents our own, and the broader communities we work with and care for.

Together, these elements tell the story of Wabusk Data Solutions: a business built on respect, relationship, and responsibility — where tradition and technology walk side by side.
